Plans to knock out OLD 4-cyl. 2.2L engine on 2000 model. (Over 101K milage).
Any suggestions of new engine replacement?

Thanks

Don't do it :). Really there is no good replacement that is reasonable in cost. Just do a major upgrade (Boost, or a N/A build up) or trade in for a 2000 V6.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

Why change out a perfectly good engine, at 101k if it has been maintained you should have plenty of life left in it. If you want speed you should look into forced induction for it.

this kid wanted to put a 2jz in a few months back and he doesn't even own a solara (maybe now he does?) ...

If you want speed, start with a better base car (RWD for handling purposes) and knock away.

Money = Speed =D

SOmeone has put a 3S-GTE in a Camry... so it should fit the Solara just fine. Go do some investigating if you seriously want to shell out the money. Another option is a small block chevy (never seen done, but many Chevy people think it can be done... lol) which would give you good bang for the buck hp.
1GR-FE ftw!

101k isn't that bad. I mean, unless you notice that your motor's f'in up big time, i'd say you should be aiite. I have 105k on mine, and i do 200 miles a day in my car for work. The motor still running strong. I also have a 92 toyota camry with 200k on there, and its running really good. Toyota makes motors that last.

yea 101k isnt that bad, but you shouldnt do the engine swap. It would be better off trading it in

Unless you are going to do it yourself or got a hook up, a swap is not worth it. IMO

If your motor is still good then just build it up and/or throw in a supercharger.

If your into the down and dirty get yourself a TT supra engine w rear wheel drive convertion. It will cost you alot.

yea that whole 2jz thing isn't worth the money. Too much to do that cost way too much. Honestly, if your going to swap it, i'd go with the second best motor toyota ever came out with, the 3sgte, found in the mr2 turbo and the celica all trac's. My buddy has the motor on his mr2 with 176k mi. He's still running upper 12's w/ 20psi.

if u gots the money... i say go with the TT supra w/ rwd.... ome might say its not worth it... but i say it is... i mean... how many ppl do u see on da streets with a solara with a TT Supra motor in it.... plus... u get to haul ass sleeper style cuz no1 would expect it out of a solara... sure the V6 is fast... but can u really compare that to the Supra motor? but then again... u better have a mad hookup or an extreme amount of cash to play with... cuz that stuff aint cheap... plenty of potential though.... just my opinion though

Yeah don't get any motor that ends with "FE" if you want to make it for racing. If I had the option of engine swap I wouldn't. Go for Broke! Go all out! :lol:
