whenever im at a complete stop and i try to hit the gas pedal, it feels like 'something is stuck' and i really have to floor it to get it going. Is this a minor problem? something that could be fixed with wd-40?

well just to let you know, my gf has a 98 Camry (same motor) and i read in a service call that there was a known issue with the accelerator/cruise control line getting damaged and sometimes getting stuck. When I drove her car, it happened as you explained and sometimes would get stuck in the same position even after you let go. (need to tap it to get it un stuck) It was a mandatory recall and toyota was supposed to replace the accelerator line for free. Not sure if it pertains to solaras, but 98 camrys were on the list. (5sfe)

i did some research and the recall isnt just for the 5sfe models...it's for all 2000 solaras

Manufacturer Recall Number 01V012
Issue Area Cruise Control
Units Affected 53,061
Defect On certain passenger vehicles built at Toyota's Kentucky plant, the accelerator cable housing could be deformed at the cruise control actuator-to-throttle body connection. The accelerator inner-cable could wear away and eventually break, allowing the throttle to return to idle or remain in its most recent position regardless of accelerator pedal operation.
Consequences This could increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective Action Dealers will replace the accelerator cable.
Note Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

well yep i guess its for all the cars. But then again, on the alldata sheet that I have, it says its only the 5sfe models. My accelerator is working fine and its one of the first to roll off the the kentucky plant (97 camry). the sheet said that toyota HAS to fix it for free or theres a number to report them if they don't. She still hasnt had it fixed, since its a secondhand car and the paperwork is a little fuzzy. WD40 or grease would workor help but its better to be safe than sorry.

well i guess it depends on usage and area of the car. My car was preordered as soon as my dad found out that the gen4 (97) camry) were comming out and till now it still has no problem. Smooth as ever. I guess it varies, but bottom line, there was a recall that was mandatory for it.

Pedal Sticking

Postby Solara916 » Tue May 18, 2004 9:59 am

Hey Steve,

I was having the same problem with my 4-banger, 00 Solara. After months of trying to figure out and getting the wrong answers from Maita Toyota (which suck cock), I finally came to the conclusion that the problem had to do with the throttle. When I brought my car in to get it cleaned out, they said that there was a bunch of gunk in the throttle, and that was what was making my pedal stick. I would suggest looking into that. Ever since I got that done, my car has been driving perfectly.

gas pedal

Postby Solara916 » Tue May 18, 2004 11:59 am

Steve,

It turned out that my cousin (by marriage) worked at the Maita Toyota that I went to, so he didn't charge me for service. Before he hooked it up with the discount, I think he quoted me for a little over $100 for everything.

Hope this helps dude.
