timing belt snapped this morning

Postby krazeee1707 » Sat May 15, 2004 3:17 pm

Yea, what a great start to my morning. Ironically, I was going to my mechanic to get my fuel filter replaced. So, on the way there, my car just stopped running and all my lights turn on, like the check engine light etc. Then the car just wouldn't start. Well, to make a long story short, it turns out my timing belt broke on me...i was well over my 90k mark anyways. I hope nothing else is broken. I towed it to my mechanics garage and he's gonna see what else may be wrong. I guess he felt sorry for me and he's only charging me 200 bucks for the labor. I still have to buy the timing belt and im possibly going to buy a waterpump. I pray that nothing else is wrong with my baby. :(

Timing belt snapped..........

Postby ezshift5 » Wed May 19, 2004 7:34 am

...........but (did I miss it?).......on the four cylinder or V-6?

Altho the V6 is a 'non-interference' engine. a timing belt failure can't be viewed as very positive........best, ez

2000 DWP SE-V6 clutch/215's..

^Both...Still sucks that the V-6 doesn't come with a chain, like the Nissan VQ. I would rather put up with the extra noise (very little) for the added assurance.

i thought timing belt or timing chain is part of the engine,
how are they related to auto or 5 speed transmission?

I believe Toyota recommends replacing the timing belt on 98 and older cars every 60k and 99 and newer every 90k. Guess they redesigned them or something. I'm almost to 180,000 and about to put on my 3rd.

dont be, seriously, your car can easily make it to 90k without a replacement. He said he was "well over his 90k mark"
