black tranny fluid

black tranny fluid

I think i might have a problem with my tranny. No matter how many times I change my fluid, it still remains black when I check it about a month or two later. I went to my buddies shop and he flushed most of it out. He said that he's never seen tranny fluid so black before. I change my fluid every 20000-25000 mi. My car had 106k and I do about 100-150 mi per day. Has anyone ever had this problem before? Do i need to rebuild/get another tranny before this goes? I mean, honestly my a/t seems fine and changes gears pretty smooth. Anyone know what exactly the problem could be. Any info is well appreciated. Thanks in advance.

are you doing a flush and refill, or just a drain and refill.

If you are just draining the fluid then you are only changing like 3-4 qts out of ~12 qts. A flush would clear out the torque converter.

In the past i've been doing drain and refills. When I took it to my buddy's shop, he didn't want to flush the whole thing b/c he said that the fluid was too black and too thick, and b/c the new fluid is really think, the tranny might go out on me. So he only did 12 qts. I'll be going in next month to do the complete flush....for the third time since i got my car 2 yrs ago.

ONLY did 10qts? The tranny including the TC has less than 10qts of fluid inside.

Drain and refill = waste of money.

It's like taking a bath in dirty water. Then pour some dirty water out and add a bit of clean water in.
