Ok, I installed a short ram intake on fri, it was the worse thing ever, first the engine started shakin, i reset the computer so the fuel ratio and all the crap readjusted itself, so then it was fine normal idle.
Than when i hit it off the line it was SOOOO SLow, i actually lost horsepower cuz of that crap, it took more warm air in then ever, put the stock one in, much better, Is this a common problem

If you bought one of those Ebay 'specials', then that's your problem. You get what you pay for. Most of those companies never do any R&D on their products. If you want to do it right, get an Injen short-ram and UPFD CAI extension. It's made for the V6, but will work for the I4. If not, a drop-in filter works great.

this is typical of a short ram so don't worry... it's really supposed to help out more in top end power... laters

MaxBoostSolara: I never had that problem with the Injen short ram. You shouldn't get any engine shaking. But, you definately loose low end.

I'd imagine you'd need to drive it around for a bit before flooring it.

Exactly Chris, I installed a cheap one at first and had to drive around for like 20 minutes before I could push my car hard. But those short rams end up sucking more hot air=bad, so get what Astro is talking about. I installed it and it works great!

There shouldn't be any as long as you don't drive into a lake. I don't know if anyone has done a CAI on a 2AZ-FE motor yet though, so keep us posted on what happens :).

Hmm ok. One more thing. Isnt an intake just an intake? Like the one off of Ebay. I wont use their ghetto intake filter. Im putting an OBX on it which is good, but isnt the pipe just like any other pipe? I really dont get it. Always thuoght that its just the intake filter that matters, not the pipe unless its turning the intake filter against the engines heat. Other then that arnt they all the same?

The gains are minimal if any. As far as your shaking, it could be a loose hose, or car needs to adjust. Power loss, if you only increase the air coming in, and don't open up the hole it comes out of you won't get much in terms of performance. It's more of a cosmetic mod and nice noise maker.
