No detatchable faceplate, I go to school in Greensboro, NC. Car stereo thefts are insane. I know they have that replacement thing, but I'd just rather not have my stereo stolen.

and you're right, i've obviously never reserached this. The Eclipse is also about $200

Yeah, but then you're left without a headunit, plus many car stereo theifs will screw up your AC or break your window or do other damage. It's alot safer to not give them a reason to come in.

::timidly pokes his head into the fray::

Well this has all been very enlightening. I come to this board, along with hundreds of other members, for advice on purchases and help with modifications, not to listen to people argue.

I am not an uber-audiophile, and im not rich. I am simply looking for (1) a deck that can play my mp3's, none of which are below 160kbps which is pretty damn good quality. (2) a deck that will perform as good or slightly better than my current stocker. (3) finally, a headunit that has a clean layout and the right color buttons and display to match my new interior.

I guess Ill make my own decision with these criteria. No offense to wortown or rudy, I just feel we are losing touch with the reason I resurrected this post. Im sorry I asked for your opinions and it had to turn into this.

heh, i say go with the pioneer, i compared it to the sony mp3 units of comparable price, and it sounded much better.

PS it wasn't actually as bad as it looks, i'm just incredibly sarcastic.

Clarion 835MP is a good unit. As for some of the other HU's mentioned, the only other choice I would consider would be an Alpine. Most of the others are only good for wheel chocks....

Next.. lol...

I find it totally absurd that places like that ask for (1st) money for the headunit (2nd) money for the installation parts like wiring harness and dash kit (3rd) money for the installation labor (4th) money for extra labor to precisely bypass the factory amp i.e. reach into the dash and hook into the universal toyota harness that I think all our cars have.

DIY here I come.
