Reverse Gauges

Reverse Gauges

Postby red2002solara » Sun Jun 13, 2004 1:15 pm

I've gone to procarparts to try and buy some reverse glow gauges for my 2002 Solara, but procarparts no longer has them. Is there any other website I can go and buy reverse gauges for my car? It seems that reverse gauges for 02- Solaras are rare. I did go to E-Bay, but they do not have reverse glow, only the gauges where the numbers light up. I want the ones where the entire gauge illuminates. Thanks!

that's probably why u cant find them... reversable gauges are the ones where only the #s light up... on ebay they read 98-01 Camry/Solara gauges or something like that, and there are some there (just saw them) also, keep in mind there are no 98 Solaras, so they are referring more to the Camry's, but even these gauges should fit an 02 Solara but im not 100% sure... can someone else confirm this for me?

yes the 97-01 camry gauges fit the solara. only difference would be the font. id suggest getting the more expensive ones, as i got the cheap universal ones (carbon look) with just cutouts for all the warning lights (IE brake reads RAKE)

the ones that are more expensive are specific for the camry/solara.

Any of these three will work

http://www.procarparts.com/store-list.a ... &year=2000

Camry Gen4 (not sure on years..I think its 97-01) and Solara Gen 1 (99-01) and 1.5 (02-03) all use the same gauges.

Last one will still have BRAKE as RAKE due to the round cutout. The top two wont have that problem. First one is silver face, second one is white face. But the white face got that funky teal circle thing in the middle. I got the whiteface ones from here, and I like em, except for that funky teal circle thing, but Ive learned to live with it. I like white better than silver face, and I like the italicized font ont he whiteface, so no regrets here.

Also, you usually can get a few bucks off if you find em on ebay from PCP. They normally discount them a few bucks when they put up an auction, and they do that every so often.

Is there a DIY for installing the reversable (last on on that PCP page). I received mine last week, but there was not instructions in the package. For some one that has done this: Where did you wire the power source (red and black wires) to? and Where do you wire the relay that has the "on/off" button. (I want the gauges to come on when the lights go on) Any info is appreciated please.

Hey man, go to the link below, i actually did that page a couple of yrs ago for for my 98 Camry, but they are pretty much the same for the Solara since i had to use those same instructions when i installed my reversable gauges on my Solara... i have them under imagestation.com, and you'll need a login id and password, it's free to sign up, just like anything else, and u shouldnt have any problems accessing it. If u do let me know and i'll see if i can post them in a different way

I think it was a green wire with a silver stripe, i forget which of the three plugs it was on, but i think it was the right most one (brown?). Please try to find out for sure before proceding.

I got a DIY off www.tweazy.net, but that site is down all the time.

Red one goes to the green/silver wire (if memory serves correct).
Black, with the ring terminal, gets mounted under that nut in the middle. (Its a ground).

The on/off/color changer thing, I threw in into the inside on the left and mounted with velcro. I dont think ill be changing it anytime soon, do I didnt need it accessible. I think its prewired to be in line with the rest of the current in that kit (Ive had two indiglos, the first pair was like the one in the last pic).

Gauges

Postby red2002solara » Mon Jun 14, 2004 12:43 pm

I contacted procarparts about gauages for solaras. They told me they no longer carry them and to try e-bay. Also, does anyone who live in the Phoenix area know of a reputable shop that can install the gauges for a decent price? I don't want to do it myself, since I know I'll mess it up somehow.

Man have u looked at the link i provided with the instructions? if not.... take a look at it man, i tried to explain it as simple as i possible. u'd be wasting ur $$ having someone else install them for u. It's really not that hard, and i consider myself an idiot when it comes to stuff like that too. Trust me... just trying to help man :drinking:

They do carry them! I linked to it. I got em from PCP thru ebay a few months ago.

I ordered the second pair. and I know someone who ordered the first pair less than a month ago, and both work without a problem. Here, ill link it again.

Remember you drive a Camry Solara. That means 99% of the interior and engine parts are identical to the Camry. The Gen 1 Solara is based off the Gen 4 Camry, and the Gen2 Solara off the Gen5.

If you can solder, you can install the guages. If not, find a friend who can solder. Thats about the only skill you need, and some handy work with getting the guages around the needle, but thats more of a delicate job than a skilled task.

Crazy glue? No glue necessary, it lays over the old ones. Solder is to tap the red wire into the green/silver one

That was great. I checked out last night, a little too late to start on it. I plan on doing the install next Saturday morning, hopefully I'll have my CF bezel by then. Thanx. :)
