Jp Performance Group Buy?

Postby swimshady906 » Thu Jun 10, 2004 9:17 am

[quote="Astro"]I'm not sure I'll have the money yet. I hope this group buy doesn't happen for a little bit. If this is for the complete system, I'm not sure about the 3" exhaust because of my dual catback setup. Any suggestions?

Larry, Ide sell the JP cat back to someone on this board... im sure there will be a buyer. JP = quality so someone would be looking for that right?

That's true. Is the ypipe stock size or is it 3"? Also, I guess I could just get a better custom setup on the dual cat back, maybe going full 3" from the ypipe. But I'm wondering when I split it after the cat, would it be wise to split it with two 3" pipes to the mufflers or to split it with smaller pipes?

So who can give a firm commitment for this in let's say the next 2 weeks? I am in for the complete system but I won't wait forever. I understand completely if money is meant for other things now. No problem. If this doesn't happen, I will buy it on my own. Just a thought. JPP will let you put it on a credit card etc. If you are serious, post a firm commitment in the next 2 weeks from now and we'll see what we have.

I'M IN!
If it dosen't take forever. Two weeks sounds good.

I want the "different catalytic converter that should have no problem passing CA emissions" and the "quieter muffler."

Sorry Chris but I just don't think this is going to happen. I've been on the boards for too long and know GB's rarely happen. I know I said 2 weeks but I'm going to order mine on Monday. Eric has a quality product and is willing to customize it for me at no charge. I was willing to add my name to the GB so people could count me in to reach the 5 minimum but I feel only you and I are truly serious about this. It's no knock on anyone because circumstances are different for everybody. I'm sure everyone would die to have the system but it is more than what most people are probably willing to spend for an upgrade such as this. Good Luck, I hope 4 more people at least go in for the header/y-pipe combo.

I'm very very surious. I just have a lot of stuff going on right now. I'd really need a couple of months and I should be able to look into it.

Totally understood. Didn't mean anything bad to those who are serious. I just tend to be impatient at times. Good luck, I'll post another evaluation when mine get put on.

I'll be really curious to compare notes with you when you get it installed. It definitely changes some of the characteristics of the car, but in a good way. Since you have a 5 speed, too, I think we'll have similar experiences. It's really a great mod, and I'm sure that you'll be happy with it.

I definetely would like to get your opinion too. I think I'm going to eventually port/match my heads/intake etc. but I think I will be the guinea pig and not drop the compression ratio. I hate to give up HP although I would be building in a safety margin. I have a while to think about that crazy idea. I guess it's because my engine is one of the lucky ones that never had a lean/knock problem and there are guys running 6-7 psi with no problems. Why not try to keep what you have?? Maybe I'm just blowing smoke up my ...

I'd like to see how that turns out. I've been waiting awhile now to see how things turn out with all these heavy mods. It looks like things are going well, so in the next few months I'll start buying more parts.

You think like me. After being burned a few times I'm a little cautious. You have to admit though, in the last year and a half we've really made progress addressing the fuel issue. It is my strong belief that has been a major issue of the lean/knock problems.
BTW, I ordered the full exhaust today. Eric is way cool. He's doing a few things for me at no charge and is doing mine in a polished aluminum ceramic coat finish that I believe a few people have. I'm psyched but it's gonna take about 2-3 weeks cause he has an unbelieveable amount of Matrix systems to do. He's really working his ass off.

Hey Paul, congrats on the buy, I just recently bought a used set from Castro. I haven't had time to get them on but soon. Good luck to everyone in the group buy, that discount is awesome, I would have jumped in on a new set if I hadn't already bought one a few weeks ago.

Alright Ron! Definetely let me know how it goes. My wife may actually buy a part for her car and she's considering the y-pipe. I hope you solved the knock problem. If you did Jim's fuel line upgrade you should be sweet right now.

As I've said before, the headers and exhaust combination from JP Performance seem to be of high quality. In combination with my 7 psi of boost and the low compression heads from Jim@FA, I am getting just over 271 fwhp and almost 252 lb/ft or torque. My system from JPP has a catalytic converter that should pass CA emmissions testing more easily than the standard one they install. It also has a quieter muffler, since I don't like a real loud sound. With these customizations, the car still sounds great. I get some resonance between 2300 and 2700 rpm, but other than that, it's not overly loud. The sound it does make is very deep and purposeful.

As for driving, I can notice significantly more power at higher revs. I also notice less torque below 2500. I'm sure that's due to the 3" piping. For city driving, I find that I now shift at higher rpm than I did before, and I now use 1st gear a lot more than I ever did in the past. I find that at lower rpm the car is a little less smooth, but it's not a big deal. This might be due to the engine needing to have the timing retarded a little at those levels, but that's just a guess. I'll be interested to hear your impressions. Good luck.

That is great info and very well said. I half expected some of the things you noticed but reserve posting anything till I get mine put on and run with it for a while.
