I'd be willing to take the plunge if I knew what was involved in the installation.

Yeah, that was my concern about the installation. From what I have seen, as long as you can get to teh back of the radio, everything else is cake.

Now, the key is, how do we get to the back of the radio? I'm assuming there aren't going to be any directions on the web...

Hey -

Well, I just placed my order for my new 2004 Solara Convertible - which I might get in 3-6 months :(

but, when I do get it, this is definately going to be something of interest to me, tying in an Ipod, or some other device of that sort

I also have a question on XM installation, and, if theres compatability for sirius, but i'll check another thread for that first.

I have an IceLink on my 2004 Solara without the nav or JBL system. My first one has issues, and I'm getting it replaced on Saturday.

I can post more info when it's done.

Hi, have you gotten your IceLink replaced?

I was just curious as to where you installed the cradle/ipod?

If you take a look at this ebay auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... gory=38641

There's a part that says:

Buyer has a choice between the actual 2004 Solara or Camry Navigation unit, it's not really a choice as only one or the other will work with your application. Two TOTALLY different Navigation units that look exactly the same however one outputs a digital signal and one outputs an analog signal to an amplifier.

Maybe that's why it specifically lists Camry NAV on the dension site? Incidentally, does anyone know which one the Solara has? the digital or the analog?

Another slight update...

found some pics of the back of the Navigation System here

http://www.siennaclub.org/forum/index.p ... 329&st=180

and it is indeed one piece. Then proceeded to ask Tom (the dension guy) and he said it should work with the "I11_TOYOTA_R2".

Looks like it should work... will probably give it a go in a few months time (finally getting my alarm installed this weekend).

Actually, if you go to the poster's toyota navigation website:
http://www.oemvalue.com/request/toyotanav.htm
He explained 3 different types of package he has. From his explanation, the 2004 Solara w/ JBL (either NAV or no NAV) seems having the digital output. The bare bone (No JBL) seems analog & seems the only one will work w/ IceLink

This isn't like the Dennison or IceLink stuff, but it looks pretty cool and seems to work well according to this guy.

Key quote from that article: Because the music is being played through an FM radio tuner, you will never hear the high-quality digital sound like you would listening with your headphones.

I have a gizmo already to send MP3 CD player output to FM and the sound is way worse so FM solution I don't think is that great.

Those prices quoted there are the same as retail cost not half price as he claims. The $8000 he quotes is total rubbish. But I guess it might be the only way to retrofit a NAV system into a car without it.

Hey guys, in case you're still interested in the Dension IceLink, I got pretty much a guarantee that it will work with the Solara's Navigation System (after showing the pic of the back.)

I, however, felt that the $270 was a bit much to spend (after tax and shipping)... and found this other alternative... The Aux Pod, which is supposed to do everything the IceLink does, at about $200 - minus the Dension Dock (I have an extra Apple one).

Here's some info, along the left side..

http://www.pac-audio.com

According to this forum,

http://www.ipodlounge.com/forums/showth ... adid=41841

the Aux-Pod uses at least one part from Dension...

I went ahead and ordered it from

http://www.logjamelectronics.com/pacauxpod.html

... installation in about a week's time... maybe... I'll keep you guys posted...

incidentally, the site says that certain Toyotas need a harness adapter (to 12 pins) from the dealership... anyone know if the Solara (w/ or w/o navigation) needs this adapter?

Can you post a picture of the back of the Nav system?

Thanks in advance

Try this link:

http://www.siennaclub.org/forum/index.p ... topic=4590

about the middle of the page. This is slightly different from the one I posted before. If you look two posts down past the one with the pic, there is an explanation of what each port is...

OK, right out of the box, the Aux-Pod does not work. I think this is because the port has changed... the Toyota adapter might solve the problem. The bigger problem, however, is that the port is already taken up by the steering wheel controls. I definitely do not want to loose that functionality.

I am looking towards logjam electronics for help as to how I can keep the functionality (and whether the adapter would help me at all, if not, it's a moot point). If not a splitter, then maybe I will have to splice the two harnesses together... anyone care to let me know how to do that?
