Proposed customized grill for Gen 1 and 1.5

Postby michaels artic frost » Fri Jul 02, 2004 5:36 am

Okay, I know that there are plenty of post about grilles for Gen 1 and 1.5. I also know that several peeps have customized some good lookin' grilles as well.

I just wanted to ask before I start the R&D process for the Gen 1 and 1.5.

For you Gen 1 and 1.5 owners...would you be interested in purchasing a custom grille if I design one. Of course, you'd like to see how it looks. I'm just trying to see what you guys thought.

The material would be the same or similiar to the one that's on my ride.

The Gen 1 and 1.5, are different.

Just a thought,
-Michael

It's looks good, gen1 has those ribs in the lower portion though. I would like it better w/o the emblem. I would probably stick with my spray painted black grill though.

No, 1 and 1.5 are different. The 1.5 is a bit shorter than the Gen1 Grill, so the same grill insert wont fit both.

Its also tough to make a Gen1/1.5 grill without the actual grill frame. Doesnt look like you need the original grill for the Gen2.

I'm proposing an upper grille, not the lower. Yup, there's a middle bar on the lower grille and there's no sense in doing anything to that...lol.

I might be interested. Did you have any pics from the gen1 car you were working on? I've been thinking about painted my black and leaving the chrome strip and emblem.

I think there'd be a pretty high demand for it, as long as the price was reasonable.... I think getting the stock grills to modify would be your biggest challenge. Offering color matching instead of the chrome might be nice too

Back from the Sandy hook so soon? I just got back. Suns nice today, but it just started raining.

I was thinking of making mine black. I got a silver mesh insert on the bottom, but I didnt paint/clearcoat it so it got tarnished and now its this sickly rotting white color. I can either redo silver mesh, but prep it well, or spray mesh black. Or maybe white looks better? What do you guys think on a black Solara?

I would like to buy one if it's avaliavle. I think that it's much better to take off the Toyota emblem. Having some color choice would be great. (I'm a lazy guy. I would like to pay rather than DIY) :D
