Adqueate power for the I4

Postby SolaraT » Tue Jul 06, 2004 7:31 pm

Definatly mad money to get that kind of power out of the Solara!!! Shoot we are talking about at least 6k to reach what a stock or lightly boosted v6 @ 4psi compared to the Solara 5s-fe can run and it's only 100-150lb lighter. To me I gave up on that dream and did some other (non engine) mods that I would enjoy more then dumping money on that and be left broke. So any more power and were talking 10-15,000+ dollars.

Sure the 1.5 and 2 gen i4 has more potential then the gen 1 but it's in the same boat. Lots of dough to fork out.
:drinking:

On the real there are so many threads with topics and achievements that other people have made and you can see that it's not easy or cost effective to turn a family sedan/coupe (economy minded engine) into a race car or faster car without serious hard core modifications. Especialy to the 4cyl.

Most people did not buy the Solara thinking they were going to supe it up because they would have purchased a fast car to begin with. I know I would have.

For Kung Fighting Dude, and anyone else who wants to see the world's baddest 4cyl Camry (if not the baddest Camry):

The 1.5 2AZ weight a lot less than the 5S =P but the 5S has stronger components

I think I will set up subwoofers in the trunk. but if that stuff (subwoofers and ampifiers, and the battery for the subs) is in the trunk, how do I get the spare tire out?

and do some hydraulics (if possible).

You have to remove the whole setup to pull your spare out... some of us (me and rufus) removed the wheel well and had our boxes mounted into the spare wheel well.

Hydros would ruin the ride of the car... and they don't handle too well, from what I know :P

Kung Fighting Dude, this is one of the problems I had with my I4 (we have the same engine). It just isn't built for rocket-tuning. I planned on buying the S/C when it comes out but I figure it would only make my I4 run like a V6. It would be wiser to just dump it an get a V6 M/T instead. I love my Solara, but it just isn't the right platform to play cheaply. You need a lot of money and effort to make it a beast, go search for Tabasco Solara and you'll know what I'm talking about ;)

What upgrades?

Postby mitchorama » Sat Jul 10, 2004 4:13 am

Has anyone installed new headers and Stainless steel exhaust to there 4 cylinder and what would it take to boost it up to 195-200 hp? I'm looking at a 2004 SE 4cyl and notice how much room there is to work on the engine. Any suggestions

Just wondering, the I4 Solara shares the same engine as the Scion TC right (2AZ-FE)? If so we can use the turbo kits/supercharger and other mods that are soon to come :)...
