Exhaust systems

I have a 2001 SLE V6. I want to put in an exhaust but I don't want one with an annoying sound. I want one that isn't too loud but will give me good performance. Is there any that is equivalent to those on exotic cars?

the only way for your car to sound like an exotic car is to buy one.

from what i've heard the apexii isn't too loud of an exhaust

Man just a few days ago, I was pullin out of my community and a Lambo, year 2004 probably, a Countach perhaps, with candy orange paint and black rims polished lip, 2 inches off the ground, drove behind me. I just look in my rear view mirror and see the dude with a big ol grin on his face. He could of easily passed me on the way out the community on the 2 lane road, yet he stayed close behind, but not azzhole close, sort of like a pack. Maybe he liked the Solara look and wanted to get a better look. :D Later at the light, I turned left, he turned right, and damn I caught an earfull of that sweet, low, revving exhaust of his. Sounded damn beautiful, almost made me hate my Solara, but Ive come to terms since then. The only thing I can do is add an exhaust, and for that I recomend the Greddy Evo2 catback system.

the evo2 is probably twice as loud as it seems he wants. I think it's way too loud and way too big personally.

and yeah, a guy in my neighborhood just bought a brand new 360 modena, and he has an old vintage like '68 or something.

and another guy has a 96 diablo gt i think. I saw him pulled over on the highway the other day by 2 cop cars and he had his doors flung open and was showing off his car. haha

Nice! yeah, pretty sure it wasnt a diablo gt, my dad used to have one of the newer ones. But the Evo2 is not the loudest at all. I think it would be much less tuned down than that Lambo I heard. The evo2s got a nice low deep growl/rumble, yet not at an incredible decibel level. There are plenty of those Hondas on universal mufflers with holes poked in em or no muffler at all, and those whine very loud and FREAKIN anoying! Thats what cops pull over. Evo2 is quite safe.

very true, I thought of that as well, but the Evo2, like I said, will be no way as loud and sound-expansive (cant describe it, but its not just being really loud, but having the exhaust note as a whole spread very far from the car, and sound like its coming from all around you when you stand outside the car).

My buddy has a Greddy on his Honda and it's just too lound for me and doesn't seem to give him the performance that he was looking for, he also had CAI. Still ain't much. Same thing for my boi w/ da Celica GTS Invidia exhaust and CAI, not much hp gain, however da Celica sound sooooooooo much betta.

Don't ever expect performance gains out of just an exhaust or CAI.

The loudness of the car doesn't really depend on the type of muffler you get, but more on the type of piping you get. Of course if you decide to get custom piping (2.5" - 2.75") then the Solara will roar. I currently have crappy 2.5" dual piping, but it still has a mean growl when the engine/exhaust heats up. Since you don't want your car to be too loud, I'd recommend getting a fairly restrictive muffler (i.e. no 4.5" tips) with 2.25" piping & stock resonators. Or you can just weld on a muffler which you find aesthetically pleasing and tack it on. In about a week I'll be installing my new duals with either 2.5" or 2.75" piping. We'll see. Peace.

I don't really understand it, but my EVO II is actually quieter than stock at idle, and not really that dramatically loud. My engine is still stock, headers and y pipe stock, stock intake.... I don't get it. It doesn't look like there's a resonator.... In any case, don't assume the EVO is loud, unless maybe mine's a lil sick

I didn't want to rain on his parade...he was real proud of his 4-banger...
There's not much difference in hp to me when he took me for a ride...however it sounded good...not good enough for me to pay $800 in parts alone for CAI & exhaust....
