Wheel locks

Wheel locks

Postby MalBandito99 » Thu Jul 08, 2004 2:06 pm

Anyone use wheel locks for their rims? I hear McGards are the best out there, but I know the controversy over them even being a viable theft deterent as pro thiefs can open em quickly or just crack them apart. They are sold in sets of 4, 1 for each wheel, but would it be too paranoid to put them as lug nuts? So every lug is a lock? :-?

What area do you live in? Is it that serious? I've got wheel locks on my rims, but only 1 lock on each rim.

Well its not that bad around here, specifically for wheel theft, but car break ins are definetly on the rise and high. Palm Beach County is one of the highest in auto ins next to Broward and Dade counties. Car jacking for my rims is what I really should be worried about, but for that wheel locks wont save me, only a gun maybe.

So maybe I am a bit paranoid to put wheel locks all around?

I had my Mazda MX-3 broken into and all da stereo equipment, amps and cds were taken. It's not fun. I didn't have an alarm at the time. Have you consider purchasing a good alarm system?

Thats a good place to start. In the next week when I get the rims on, I will inquire at the same shop on a DEI alarm or something. Maybe I'm thinking a bit overboard on putting locks on all lugs, maybe just 1 or 2 sets will do.

I got a two-way paging alarm system to page my A$$ if it goes off. It was a price to pay though...cus my last alarm was DEI and it was your average alarm and the alarm went off and I was in the store and I didn't hear it and some idiot hit my car and left a big dent on the side. That's the only reason I decided to invest in this two-way paging alarm system.

Recently i had lost the key to my 'gorilla' locks. (i was told that gorilla was one of the industrys leading luglock sets - this was in 1999 when i originally purchased the set). Anyhow, went to a local small mom&pop shop and they popped all 4 locks for 10 bucks in UNDER A MINUTE! makes you wonder why we place lug locks to begin with....The locks weren't broken, they used a tool which they hammered into the lock, and just used their aircompressor guns to spin the tool and the locks came out as regular lugs! :o

Glad you got your luglock issue taken care of. However, that's not good for those who have lucks on the wheels, if it's that easy, then anyone can do it. That's why I've got the car alarm as well. The moment you kick or any movement on my wheels, the alarm will go off and page me...I hope I don't ever have to experience that. I've already been through it once before with my MX-3.

It's so nice, no monthly payments...lol. If there was, I wouldn't have gotten it. I hate monthly payments...got enough of them already...lol

The alarm is their top of the line.
It's an automatic paging system that pages you if the alarm is tampered with. It even shows a picture icon of what is being tampered with. For instance, the door or trunk or hood would flash with an icon. It's great...I love it. The remote start is nice on hot days too, I also had automatic windows roll up with a press of one button and automatic roll down. Let me know if you do decide to do this.

Yeah the alarm looks cool. I was thinking of buying some other alarm accessories that the site you gave a link for on your alarm had. What do you think of getting a tilt sensor, maybe some more shock sensors, and a glass sensor.

Mine comes with all that, if you even lift the windshield wipers, the alarm goes off.
