Stock talk about the Generation 1 and 1.5 Toyota Solara which were produced from 1999 to 2003.

What do you think?

What do you think?

I finally got my hands on a solara that was slightly wrecked, mostly front end damage. I have been trying to think of what I really want to do with it. I have a choice; I can rebuild the entire front with tube steel or rework the front a little bit. If I rebuild the entire front I would end up having a one piece fiberglass shell built for it. Myself I don't know that I want that look, though it would be very light. If I stay with the current frame I will have a stock looking solara and that is even better. What do you guys think? The car is getting converted to a rwd with a 6spd getrag / 2jz. There is space to mount the engine in the front so it does not need to be extended. I just cannot see a fiber front end on it. I have looked at some other cars that have had this done but I dunno. I think it would take alot away from the car.

if u look at the turbonetics solara... the only way they fit that 2jg monster in the stock end of the car was by taking everytihng out of the engine bay: fender wells, accessories... albeit that bullish made motor is HUGE.. its still the general size of the 2jz... if u can run a street legal RWD 2JZ powered solara.. I will be the first to call you King Of Solaras... no lie

good luck... but i agree with trdmole177, but ill give ut he benefit of the doubt.. 3 months lol

Hope it all works out for you. No one has ever built a street legal 2JZ Solara. I think it may take more than 2 or 3 months. With a project like this you would want to take your time and make sure your Solara runs right.

Keep us posted. Good Luck. 8)

If he has the dough then let him go! He is determined so lets see the results when he finishes. Don't do the fiberglass bumper dude. If anything a sleeper. Don't do anything dramatic to the exterior body.

You would also have to get..
-Real big brake kit $2000.00
-SBraid brakelines
-Ultra strong coilover suspention
-Ultra light and strong forged wheels
-and a bunch of other items .

After thinking through this why not just get a supra? I sure would!
Unless I was rich and board and decided to take on this project. It looks a hell of alot better and easier to modify. You will probably spend just about the same unless you buy one that is already modified.

I hope you understand the negativie vibes you getting from this board. You know people are going to bust your chops on this.

Actually tube steel is street legal. I have sat down with the DMV on it. I have to apply for a special 'Kit Car' and pass emissions that were laid down for the power plant. Not the body. That was my first major question. We have been planning for a while now and I expect the project to take 6 months - 8 months in fabrication, then about two to three months on the engine work. After that it's not a major deal. Suspension isn't as bad as you guys would think. With some fancy work we can adapt the tein ss kit with the edfc to work on the solara.

As for why, I just wana do it cause I really like the solara. Have owned one since they were first released. I think the car should have been rwd to begin with, and the power I would like to produce would be just as costly to build up the current car. As for the cost, were looking into almost 40K to complete the car.

TrdMole: Let’s hope I don't prove you wrong because I have already invested allot of time and money into this project. That would suck, but I have a lot of friends who run tuning / Fabrication shops who are going to help me out. Who knows. :o

....or an SC300 with manual tranny, and beef it up? I hope that you can make this work out. I'll be very interested to see if it does. I think that the Solara is a nice car, too, but not nice enough to sink $40K into. Good luck, and as I said, I hope it will work out.

Denver, Colorado. Not really rich. No one is really rich. I just gave up one hobby for another. Quit doing the home theater thing to put the money into the car.
