what are the specs on size of the 2jz? I'd be curious about another engine to drop in the solara if I would be the one doing all the engine and fixing of this solara. 40K = a hella lot of cash to burn, if I had it, I'd probably do it too man. if you can get me a page with the specs on size and such, I'd much appreciate it =)

www.supraforums.com best place for info on it... As far as engines go, without taking your car to the chopshop the 1mzfe isn't a bad engine. There are alot of people who have it putting down some good power. Just a matter of what you want to do to get there. The thing I had to sit down and realize was what my overall goals were. Depending on what your goal is, sometimes it is cheaper and quicker to take the one path that may seem impossible. If all else fails, ebay the project 1/2 way thru.

pretty much you're gonna be building a dragster solara now. I believe i talked about this in another thread about those rwd and converstion crap somewhere on this forum.

Pretty much the team just bought the shell body. then molded a steel tube frame with the roll cage and shoved on the tundra v8 w/SC? i think since its a FRD as in front mounted engine rear drive tranny. somehing like that. And that thing on the tracks were pulling around 10s. !?
Pretty much. Original suspension is going bye bye. Lots of underbody work to shove the the axle pipe underneath to do the rear drive.

Yeah, I have a local fab shop that will be doing all the work for me. I am looking at $5,000. The best part is that the shop sponsors a website I run so I already have a relation with them and they also want to do the car to advertise their abilities. The axel isn't as huge of a deal as one would think. The middle of the solara already has a slight hump for the exhaust and that helps allot. The main issues that we have found so far are...
1) Blower unit has to be relocated or replaced.
2) Middle console will have to be modified to allow the transmission.
Going to get this redone and covered with leather.
3) Gas tank will be removed and replaced with a fuel cell in the trunk.
4) All access to the rear from inside will be lost due to the back being built up to handle the stress and addition of a rear axel.
5) The rear seats will be lost. Can be done without loss of the rear seats though. I just don't care to have them in there as that area will be housing speakers, amps, and two computers to manage the car.
6) Going to remove the side gas door and just fill from inside the trunk. Replace the gas door with sheet metal and make it solid. This is just preference for the most part.


Also the other people who have a solara drag are street glow.
Http://www.streetglowracing.com. They have the two molded units running a 2jz also. Though I will not be going even close to what they did as they are full on drag. I don't want to go that far because I want to be able to drive this car to meets, shows and be able to kick some supra ass.

Dude when i got mine, it was worse had to pull the frame, the whole front, parts are quite expensive from the dealer, i got all the oem crap
it cost me 3200 From the auction , and i fixed it for around 4,000

Good luck. I really hope to see pics in the future. That's a crazy and insanely expensive project, but I would love to see someone do it.

Yeah, I'd love to see/have a rwd Solara. I wish I'd bought a used Lexus SC 300 with manual tranny and dumped as much money into it as I have my Solara.

There are a few SC300's around here on 2j's. The bonus to that is in a strech the solara kinda has their style/look. I know I am pushing it a little but hey!
