Did you buy the HID kit?
If so, did the bulb come with the bottom shield? by the way, I like your car... I have the 19" Konig tantrum... It's the original 7 spoke rim that every company started to copy including your's. ;)

-Conrero aluminium foot pedals.. Sitting in the garage due to my laziness.

Yup i got the conversion kit, the bulb come with upper shield and a movable bottom shield.. (however the bottom shield hit the factory bottom shield while switching between Hi and Lo, so i had to take off the factory shield, which is really a pain in the a** job)

Did you get the kit from Autolamps, or some where else? And may I ask how much you got it for? And astly, how does the shield move, i.e. does it swivel or bend down? Sorry for all these questions, but I'm curious to see how dual-beam xenons are doing.

I really like the FET harness idea. I couldn't find it selling alone anywhere so I designed one using the voltage follower configuration of an n-channel power MOSFET.

Anyone want to test it out for me? :) I sent it to a friend that is a semiconductor engineer and to the newsgroups and they say it'll work. I'd build it myself, but I already ordered those Philips vision plus bulbs and I probably won't be trying to get HID lights anytime soon anymore.

Actually i got the kit from a friend.. as a gift  it's embarrassing to ask the price.. i was guessing he bought it off from some shops..
But i can answer other questions! :)
The bottom shield (which they call in the instruction an action mirror) is connected to the burner unit with two thin sheet of metal, in normal condition (Lo) the action mirror is parrallel to the D2R bulb, while in case that switch is turned to (Hi) the piece of metal that's closer to the unit is magnetized to the unit body (because the current passes thru) and so the other piece of metal is pulled and also the action mirror, which is pulled and thus tilt to a certain degree (downwards), so that the light could be revealed and reflected by the reflector on the bottom of the housing and produce the Hi-Beam.
Well since it's a universal kit it's not specially designed for solara's light housing, and therefore the Lo/Hi beam difference is really limited. The difference exists, but not obvious like the stock bulbs where the Hi/Lo is adjusted by the filements.

So...

Postby SKYravefever » Sun Oct 27, 2002 11:45 pm

when can I start being friends with your friend? You know, X-mas is just around the corner, and my lights are kind of dim.... j/k... So I guess the difference between the highs and lows aren't as apparent as halogens. Thanks!
