I think you're right that the Solara target market was people in "midlife", but since when did "midlife" become 20's and 30's?
I believe Toyota expected the Solara to appeal to people in their 40's and 50's whose kids were out of the house, and who wanted something that looked sporty but was comfortable and solid. That's exactly what the Solara is. It has a sportier look than the Camry, but, being a Camry, it's hardly a sports car. The soft suspension seems to appeal to women, as I notice a lot of middle aged women driving it. It's pretty obvious, though, that people of all ages have been buying them.
