Stock talk about the Generation 1 and 1.5 Toyota Solara which were produced from 1999 to 2003.

Is it me or do alot of old people drive our cars?

On this site I see people my age with Solara's but on the road old people drive our cars all the time.

Not to mean or anything but I find it interesting that Toyota classifies this car as a retired persons car.

yeah, but how many old people care enough to find a site? (no offense to the 'mature' solarapeople on the site)

the car was targeted at the 40-something crowd, its big, luxurious, not too expensive or sporty either.

The solara is definately not an "old persons" car, it is however a midlife car. Most commonly owned by 20-30 year olds. It is not practical for people with families to own a solara because it is a 2-door. Also you see "old people" in the accord 2door. I am 17 and I love my car, especially because its unique

I think you're right that the Solara target market was people in "midlife", but since when did "midlife" become 20's and 30's?

I believe Toyota expected the Solara to appeal to people in their 40's and 50's whose kids were out of the house, and who wanted something that looked sporty but was comfortable and solid. That's exactly what the Solara is. It has a sportier look than the Camry, but, being a Camry, it's hardly a sports car. The soft suspension seems to appeal to women, as I notice a lot of middle aged women driving it. It's pretty obvious, though, that people of all ages have been buying them.
