MAX RPM before Rev Limit

Not sure but my car is not intended to be a racing car. Its more like my pet project and a weekend show car. I only got the engine rebuilt because first off all I had killed the OEM one and second, because if someone does jump me going to or coming from a show I want them to go away saying "damn thing was pretty and fast"..

I have a MSD DIS-4. It requires two adapters that MSD will provide. There is a switch in the SW1 set, there is also a SW2 and SW3 set, that allows you to extend your Rev limit. Although the book that came with the MSD indicated extending your RPM beyond the ECU set rev limit may not work in all cases, mine does.

Also know that my ECU has been modified by JetChip.

I would have to agree wit DatSRBoi on the red-lining the car . . . if you ever want to have the best times on your 1/4 mile, (for manuals) I'd suggest pushing it right up to the redline and shift . . . takes some practice, but will definitely lead to the best times. I've tried it a bunch of different ways at the tracks and redline has proven the best. Shootz den.

why in the hell would you think its faster to shift at 5500? you might not have to worry about the little tiny slump off of power, but that puts you way under that fat torque at 4200. i bounce the rev limit almost ever shift,... in my auto lol... and im not kidding

i have seen my needle pull past the factory 6250, more like 6300 or a little more.

and on a built motor i dont see a problem in revs as long you got enough fuel to feed it. if i could figure out how to remove the limiter all together i would

Actually if I shift at 5500rpm second to third I hit 4000rpm (and the 'fat' torque curve). If I shift at 6500 (ie cutout) I miss the 'fat' curve all together .

BTW mine is a manual and I was refering to the manual ratios. Anyway, this wouldnt work in an auto (because it shifts on its own).

My auto does not always shift on it's own.. I like to shift it myself.

You cant shift an auto up if you have the foot to the floor if it thinks it too early ??? Also, as you know, you cant keep an auto in gear if it thinks it should shift down ...

I realise that. I am sure he has taken care of the transmission issues. However, I do remember him mentioning that he recently had problems on the dyno with the transmission. So I am assuming he couldnt keep it in gear ... as per my discussion ...

seems like red lining isn't the proper way to race.... anyone can redline their car, i think depending on cars like civics and integra with a higher redline than solaras and lower torque, you would have to redline the crap out of civic or integra because its mainly hp.. as for solaras and high torque cars with a short redline i think just short under redline is optimal so the torque can push it instead of hp....

think about this... when they build race cars, they tweak the cam so that redline can go as high as possible... there gotta be a reason for that!

I'm not saying higher redline is always better, but for most powerbands it is!

Torque comes in handy between shifts and when the gas pedal is pressed, but as soon as that happens, HP takes care of the rest. In other words, torque is needed to get over the moment of inertia of the parts. When the parts start rolling at a speed, torque is of no use!

Makes sense. It is quite a good point.

However, lets put this in the equation as well. When I use a gtech meter the gforces that the car is pulling at (in any gear) peak and hold around 4.0 - 5.0krpm and go downhill from there. So the car is pulling hardest (accelerating fastest) at the peak torque not at peak power. Therefore, if you can be in the 4.0 - 5.0krpm longer and stay away from the rest you will accelerate faster. Therefore, I feel that if you shift around 5.5 - 5.7krpm (in a Supercharged 1MZ) you will accelerate fastest. What do you think?
