Door Window Adjustment

Door Window Adjustment

Postby Sentinel » Sat Jun 04, 2005 7:55 am

I did a search about the door window coming up to high and making the door hard to close, but found no instructions, and my Haynes book had nothing:

Is the window adjustment a no-brainer? Where are the adjustment screws and stops?

interesting, 1st time i hear about this man... what gen do you have? if you are still under warranty i would have a dealership check it out. Have you put tinted windows on your ride and if so, whoever installed ur tint, did they remove the side panels and messed with the window?! (that's the only thing I can think of)

punk kids

I've got 125k on my ride... definately NO warranty. Just a cheap replacement window courtesy of the punk kids here on the west side of the ATL. I saw him having problems with it when the dude installed it, but I scoped his mechanical ability out (little to none) and determined I'd rather deal with it myself.

I've done it before, just not on a Solara.

If I remember correctly to take the door panal off, there are 2 screws on the bottom, one where the handle to pull the door closed is and behind the door release hinge.

Then with a little force you pull off the door panal (keep in mind the panal has those plastic pins or clips...whatever you call them to secure the panal to the door.

....from there your gonna have access to the electrical stuff.....speakers, tweeter, window switches, etc.. Behind all of that is the track for the window.

You might need to remove a metal sheet that keeps the wires and stuff away from the window by unscrewing a few more screws.

On the bottom of the window there should be a few holes that are there to keep the window in the track when you open and close it. Make sure that its installed correctly and be careful because that sheet of glass can break on you or pieces of it can chip if your not careful.......then from there check to make sure its on the track and you should be good.

To put the entire door back together, just work backwards from what you did to get to the window......and from there you should be good.

** Once again, what I've said there might be a few differences but I've done this on a BMW, Benz, Lexus, Jeep, Celica and a few Honda's so the process is pretty much the same, I might have left out a few things but for the most part its how to do it **

Hope this is helpful to you.............. 8)

problem solved

Postby Sentinel » Sun Jun 05, 2005 8:44 am

I feel like a dummy by asking. I took the door panel off and all there is (besides the window mechanism, which was working properly) is two plastic stops with bolts. So... if anyone else tries to search for

how to adjust a window

Yank the door trim off, and there are two stops. (fore and aft) you can see 'em from the top of the door. scribe where the bolts are so you know where you adjusted them to, loosen the bolts, move 'em, and then tighten them.

I guess the reason they weren't in the Haynes manual is there can be no mistake what is going on (If you are a mechanic, anyway) I think I was worried there would be threaded stops on the power window mechanism itself, and there might be some procedure to adjusting them. But no. Just 2 plastic stops.

Thanks for the help, folks. Now if I can just find which sticker gives me the most H.P. gain.
