are you discrediting the use of this modification? (crank pulley)

I think you COMPLETELY missed my point. I'm saying you can't put a mod on like an intake and say, "WOW, my car has SO much more power now"!

I think you are all wrong... i've put a ton of stickies in my car and i feel like i'm flying!!!!!! LOL hahahahaha

LOL, I guess I'm in that club. I also have a loan to pay back and not to mention a pretty sizable line of credit. Anyone in the same sinking boat as me?

Got my pulley installed today. I like it. (It is such an attractive piece that I wish I could wear it around my neck hanging off a gold chain.)

It has increased throttle reaction so that my car revs faster when I accelerate. I believe, however, that this has exposed the air flow shortcomings of my stock exhaust and stock intake (w/K&N filter). In other words, I think this pulley will produce a proportional benefit depending on how free flowing a system you have.

Unfortunately, I do not have as free flowing a system as I should. I may be one of the few with 6lbs. of boost, yet still using stock exhaust and stock intake. In order to make the most of the pulley, and other tweaks here and there, I guess I will have to say goodbye to my quiet stock intake and get the CAI whenever it is re-released. Also, I will have to bite the bullet and get the exhaust system done.

Hope this helped.

There are two ways:

Savage way: Get a breaker bar and put it against the floor so when you crank it it will loosen the bolt

Safe way: Go to kragens or autozone and rent a tool that will hold it in place so you can loosen the nut

Wow, sounds good. How long have you been running 6lbs. of boost? Did you do any mods to support that much boost?

My car is currently in the shop to get my 5.5 pulley on. But, I'm also getting the crank pulley, 190 fuel pump, 330cc injectors, Supra MAF kit, and S-AFCII. I'm also looking into the Sun Auto Hyper Voltage System and Sun Exhaust Grounding Systems. I already have Jim's fuel kit, the CAI extension, JPP y-pipe, and just put on my 2 Magnaflow mufflers. Even with all the I'm still scared to run 6lbs. Man, I wish I knew for sure that I could be totally safe to run more than 5.5lbs on stock internals.

Man, I can't wait to get it back and get the AFC dialed in... 8) I'm so curious as to what kind of numbers I'll be putting down when I get on the dyno...

MO POWER!!! :P

I have had this set up about 3 or 4 years. I have Jim's fuel kit, and Denso plugs, but that is it. I have been one of the lucky ones I guess because I have never had knock sensor issues. I remember how people were blowing knock sensors left and right without even going to 6lbs. and I couldn't understand it.

I dyno'd my car about 3 years ago and it was putting down 260 to the wheels, so you should have good results after all of your mods.

This is an expensive hobby as we all know and I just have other responsibilites, so I haven't done the other mods like I want. Frankly, sometimes my modding interest wanes because it is so frustrating to find tuner shops for the Solara. For example, I haven't bought the URD fuel kit because there is no good shop in L.A. that I can install and tune it.

(Not only have I not found any good aftermarket tuner shops that will work with the Solara, I don't even see that many repair shops for Toyotas in general. I always saw that as proof that Toyotas don't break down much compared to other cars.)

I used to go to the Toyota dealer, but they are not willing to do much for liability reasons, and they charge a premium. Now I have a good Toyota mechanic in San Pedro that I go to. He doesn't do the aftermarket tuner stuff, but he is a solid Toyota mechanic and installs my parts like the URD pulley.

I guess my point is that I probably would have installed more mods over the years if there were more Toyota tuner support like Honda's have. Everyone on this board knows how much of a pain in the ass it has been for the Solara community to even get this far.
