I don't know about you guys..but I was rubbing RIM w/o spacers. Its even worse with the JIC setup(with the 2004 OEM 17s)

Hey with spacers could i theoretically somehow fit wider wheels onmy car? LIke 18x9.5 or something as opposed to only 8.5.

You're limited to what you'd be able to fit under the wheelwell..but if you like your rims sticking out, hell you could go 19x15 if you wanted.

It depends on WIDTH and OFFSET and to a lesser extent, the tires.

Without knowing the offset, you wont know if you need spacers or not. Spacers have the same affect as decreasing offset. Offset is where the wheels hub sits in relation to the rest of the wheel. 0 offset means the hub sits right in the center, positive offset is for hubs that sit away from the wheel, like most passenger cars, and negative offset is for hubs that sit closer to the axle (You will see this on many trucks..18 wheels usually use a mix of positive and negative offset wheels, youll see one looks normal, and one looks "deep dished").

Offset is usually printed on the wheel on the back side of the rim along with the diameter and width.

To not rub, you need to keep the wheel between the strut and the fender egde. The fatter the wheel, the less room you have to play with. Front is usually no issue for us, its the back that has rubbing problems.

a 7.5" at +40 to maybe +35 offset should be good. 7" has 3 more mm on either side, so you can go from about +43 to +32 without rubbing. for an 8" rim, you need to stick to almost exactly +38 for perfect fitment

50 profile is way too much for 18" rims btw....stick to 40-45 profile. Most popular is 225/40/18.

You dont need spacers unless you absolutely WANT wheels that wont properly fit, or you're going widebody.

I have the gen. 2 rims with 225/45/17 on there and the back wheels look too far in, in relation to the wheel well. If i get spacers, im guessing 5mm, would that eliminate taht problem, make the the wheel flush with the body/wheel well? (would it push out the wheel?)

Thanks
Omar

i would get 5mm spacers. take your wheel off i'm pretty sure the inner side of the tire is scuffed up. It's too close to the struts you don't want to hit a bump or whatever on the highway and have your rear tires blow on you
