It's typically every 60,000 miles, or whenever they're dirty, but the time to change it varies on what type you get (e.g. single-prong > dual-prong > iridium). As for NGK, it's what the dealer uses. I don't know about I4's, but V6 typically needs a dual prong.

I went to the dealer yersterday actually. I told them that I need spark plugs for a 2002 Solara 1MZ-FE.

They gave me iridium sparkplugs with one prong on them. Each one was $10.32 plus tax.

Multiple prongs are for longer life. (if one prong gets eaten away, it uses the other, closer prong. Only one prong is in use at a time). They are not required, nor is there any other benefit.

My stocks on Gen1 5S are NGK platinum plugs. I changed to IK20s (Denso Iridium) at 60K

You can use Platinum or Iridium, and recommended brands are NGK and Denso.

Im not aware if plug wire replacement is a regular maintenance item, but they're not on my list. If anyone knows better, post it.

i had my car serviced about 9 months ago. and. it was a reg oil/filter, rad. flush, fuel system... and by the end of it all... the car wouldnt start. it needed the dual prong plugs... which i had to wait another hour for the delivery guy to get to the shop.

he brought me out to where my car was and cranked the motor... it wouldnt even start with the single prong plugs in it.

Any of you guys do seafoam?
I recommend after you seafoam...leave you existing plus for a week and thereafter replace them. I knew a celica guy who bough denso iridums who replaced the plugs first and then did the seafoam...and then needed to replace his plugs again. Just a FYI for those who don't know.

Sea foam kicks donkey, but it does tend to make plugs a bit dirty. Although I have found that with quality plugs they tend too clean themselves off without a problem.

And YES I actually typed Donkey

Odd I have no problem with NGK iridium IX single prong. The doubles only fire one prong at a time (the closest one) this way they wear slower than others.
