One more question would this be the equivalent of having an INjen SRI , with or without extension, and also adding the Apexi Af?? air fuel controller

I wonder that too....the guy bought the Solara but don't have any other extra cash..

facevedo17, you could do an equivalent of the CP-e by buying Inejn short ram + Apexi + tuned for the car...it will end at something around 900$-1000$

I don;t know about the CAI extension part (don't submarine!) but this part must be better than the Injen and the apexi for the simple fact that the throttle body is larger.

If I had an S/C I'd get this baby with the tune as well: if an S/C works with no other modifications (@ 4psi) this one will surely get you to the dyno for a tune.

In fact: put my name on the list: Just because there is a REASON you can't get performance parts for a Solara. No-one buys them!

This mod will blow away the injen + cae + safc + dyno tune (which is way more expensive when all is said and done).

You are not buying a chromed out noisemaker!

CP-E knows their stuff (key word in their name, Engineering). They did the research, developed and tuned this intake to perform right out of the box. Who else can deliver 20 foot pounds of torque and 17 horses, plug-and-play? What other intake can grow with you if you continue to mod?

Show some support for the aftermarket! This may be the most significant modification in terms of power and value for the 1MZ-FE, second only to the supercharger (or possibly nawwwzzzzz, if you feel lucky).

At the wheels !! Making 20hp and 25 foot pounds of torque at the engine

To make a short description...the 3.5" wide pipe is not what making you gain this power....it is the solara specificly tuned chip that override the ECU...your ECU is physicly unchange...it is the ECU signal that is modifyed by the CP-e AFC chip.

Holy crap I totally forgot the dyno numbers were unadjusted WHP! And the gains go across the entire powerband - no sharp peaks/valleys. Josh told me they built this intake to be a performance monster without sacrificing any daily driveability.

what about I buy the tunable chip that is tuned exactly as if I would have bought the intake, but not get it with the pipe itself? I have a custom setup that I'd like to use. In the past, if you bought the tunable box only, they skip the custom gen1 maps which I need and say to tune it myself. I just want to be able to use the tunable box with the R&D they have done to make the gains the got. Reason I dont really care for the actual pipe itself and really wans a tunable box that is "tuned" is so that I have base maps to start with and can adjust for my s/c and other mods from there.

Once again: I'd like the tunable version of the box that is tuned as if I bought it with the kit, but do not want to pay for the pipe or filter. Hope something can be worked out.

I see where you are going with this.... but don't forget, the engineering behind the system is much of what you are paying for.... and the system is exactly that --> a BALANCED package that is developed as an INTEGRATED kit. If you are going to go through and do all your own "re-development" from a TUNING standpoint, perhaps it would work.... but the "BASELINE" in the tuneable "customizer" unit itself would no longer be a true BASELINE, since you are "breaking up" the integrated system and certain "assumptions" will be lost.... (In the case of my Gen 2, the single variable of air-flow volume/velocity/etc... alone through the large 3.5" pipe is such a big factor that changing this pipe size, bend, length, etc..... would likely NEGATE any pre-existing MAP in the first place.... requiring extensive work to re-establish your baseline....)

Perhaps you are planning on doing that type of work with a DYNO anyway, and that's why you are "skimping" on the kit? (I would think you'd EAT UP the cost of the balanced kit portion you are wanting to leave out and save on in the first hour with a DYNO.... and that wouldn't TOUCH the tuning baseline achieved by CP-e's development work....

JUST MY THOT's, guys.... I could be BONE-HEADING it here.... dunno....

Maybe I just don't GET IT?

EDIT ENTRY --> Yeah, I re-read your post, and I'm not sure you understand the premise for what is being called "BASELINE" as a MAP..... this BASELINE stops being a properly tuned baseline the moment you alter the inherent component array that the tune was initially set up on in the first place..... leaving out CP-e's pipe, or any other intended configuration variable that was part of the original baseline tuning, is just asking for trouble unless you REALLY know what you are doing..... Just think of how different flow characteristics are between a 2", 3", 3 1/4", 3 1/2" etc.... pipe size.... not to mention length, bends, etc, etc.... Think of it as tuning a "BAFFLE" tube in a sub-woofer. Inch by inch length and small diameter changes greatly impact the frequency of tune.... etc....

Okay, enough worrying about your project.... GOOD LUCK!! 8)

Just CALL JOSH and talk to him about it....

put me in for the 5th slot.

I miss this thing, gotta have one again. Like everyone else said people....just charge it! Its worth it completely, I've had the injen, stock w/ k&n, and custom and nothing is better than CPE. To let you guys know I bought one for the really low promotional price when they first started selling them and I'll gladly pay a lot more for a new one because of how good it was.
