Gentlemen:
From what I've read, bypassing the governor, although do-able, is a bit of a challenge. However, changing the final drive ratio may not be. I believe that the stock final drive ratio is approximately 3.09 to 1. Reducing this to around 2.75 to 1 would yield a higher top speed. And this, not all-out acceleration is my ultimate goal. Taking a median figure of 135 mph in stock configuration, the taller final drive ratio should yield (approximately) an additional 15 mph, everything else being equal. This is assuming that the engine is still able to pull to the redline in the new configuration. An improved air intake and exhaust system should help greatly in that respect. If indeed the newly configured Solara is able to do 150 mph., we are talking about some serious speed that puts the car into more rarified company. Can anyone say G35? Whether the driveability of the car would be significantly affected is another question.
One thing that continually amazes me, is the serenity of the car at speeds over 100mph. I reqularly hit triple digits on daily commutes, and there is no sense of drama whatsoever. I remember going 130 mph in a '60's era Plymouth Roadrunner, and feeling like the car could lift off at any second. Time and technology marches on.
