a performance intake manifold.

I may get a local shop to fabricate some headers

First step, though is a peformance muffler.

1. Contact TRD4Life (Gabe)

2. TRD Supercharger

3/4. JPP Performance Headers/Y-pipe/exhaust

with all of the above you're looking at bumping close to 100 hp. You need to talk to Paladin, JoeB, Shishoda, TRD4Life and a handful of other guys that have paved the way, they might even be able to put you in the proper direction. p.s. there is an extension to the Injen available that will make it a true CAI.

Where? I can't find anything on their web site about one... only stuff for VTEC :-?

And what about overriding the Rev Limiter?

Greg:
Is that the stock throttle body or a performance throttle body?

Gentlemen:
From what I've read, bypassing the governor, although do-able, is a bit of a challenge. However, changing the final drive ratio may not be. I believe that the stock final drive ratio is approximately 3.09 to 1. Reducing this to around 2.75 to 1 would yield a higher top speed. And this, not all-out acceleration is my ultimate goal. Taking a median figure of 135 mph in stock configuration, the taller final drive ratio should yield (approximately) an additional 15 mph, everything else being equal. This is assuming that the engine is still able to pull to the redline in the new configuration. An improved air intake and exhaust system should help greatly in that respect. If indeed the newly configured Solara is able to do 150 mph., we are talking about some serious speed that puts the car into more rarified company. Can anyone say G35? Whether the driveability of the car would be significantly affected is another question.
One thing that continually amazes me, is the serenity of the car at speeds over 100mph. I reqularly hit triple digits on daily commutes, and there is no sense of drama whatsoever. I remember going 130 mph in a '60's era Plymouth Roadrunner, and feeling like the car could lift off at any second. Time and technology marches on.

this is sweet! im wondering though if jim@foreign affairs is still around? he did a lot of N/a stuff for us. torque rod, engine mounts i believe, but im not too sure on the mounts, kinda think its someone else. anyway, hes a great contact, im pretty sure hes in oregon? idk, this is news from like stuff for 2-3 years ago. are you wanting to stay street legal after the run? cuz i think youll get some really great gains with off-road only mods. the rev-limiter is an easy fix also. good luck with everything! keep us updated!!

The long-awaited Injen intake has been installed. Looks good and sounds good. A Magnaflow catback exhaust system has been added. For a car that has been serenely quiet for the past 8 years, the snarling rumble of the exhaust note is a change indeed, and will take some adjustment on my part. Several people have already commented favorably on the sounds coming from the car. With the iridium plugs and performance wires in, the car definitely has more zip. How much more I can't say for sure at the moment. I am reluctant to test it on the street as the local police are cracking down on speeders with a vengeance. I may slide over to the local dragstrip and give it a go. Questions about changing the final drive ratio are being met with puzzled looks by most shops. No one wants to reprogramme the computer in order to defeat the governor. I am sure a tuner shop will be able to do the job.
All in all, things are proceeding slowly but positively.
