Thanks Midias! And there was no need to get mad at me for asking you to clearify what you were saying the first time. It just came off very confusing to me because I am not familar with the proper lingo for car exhaust tubing. Like I said before I knew that pipe size refers the the ID of the pipe and I knew that sizes for different applications can also refer to the OD instead of the ID. I just never knew what if the size for cars was OD or ID. I even called several car places and none of them knew either. They just order the correct part numbers they say.
Anyway I did some research before I came back on here and saw your chart , which helps. Im just putting this info out here for the rest of you guys who dont know. I found out that pipe sizes always refers to the ID and tubing which is what cars have refers to the OD.
Now I measured the OEM tubing on my car with some digital calipers and it came out to 2.1in for the OD meaning that our cars come stock with 2" exhaust.
As far as the resonator fittings go, i wasnt sure if I got a 2" size if that meant it was going be the exact size and the stock pipe or if I would have to buy the next size up (aka 2.25) so that it would fit over it. I also found out Like Midias said on all the accessories (refering to mufflers, resonators, etc) they flare out to fit over the stock tubing so that means I have to order the 2".
And Midias: I was kindof offended by the Metro comment, just because as a kid Ive always been into cars, but had a dad who is an accountant and only sees cars as a money pit. They just get you from point A to B he says. And cause of that in highschool he would always prevent me from modifing my cars because it was a waste of money. So he has always driven buicks and whenever it breaks he pays to have it fixed. He has no interest in fixing cars nor does he know how to work on them. So I on the other hand have taught myself everything I know about cars. I will admit I have a lot to learn yet, but I also do know a lot and understand things really well. I just take a lot of pride in knowing that I have taken it on my own to teach myself all these things about working on cars and also learning from others like yourself. Funny thing is, now my dad buys me tools for my birthday and such and now I can fix his cars which saves him more money. So thank you for helping me learn about exhaust sizes Midias. I learned that from you! No hard feelings
On a side note I found this article and thought it was very interesting because it was very informative about the complete exhaust system. Although I will say some things this author says about turbos I disagree with.
