DatsRTurbo Solara Interests in here?
First off this should not be like the little Y pipe mishaps I had for you guys. So if you have a comment to say about that, make your own thread because for real Sheiets happens and I tried my best to get it resolve on a nonprofit project.
I have been keeping this from you guys for 2 months now. Only woaaaa Jeff knows.
To the real topic, I have been in and out of the shop lately with the white solara trying to mock up a turbo kit idea for the solara.
FYI its not cheap. You are looking to spend at AROUND AT LEAST 3 grand and up for a kit. The turbo I have picked for the project is a TO4E Garrett turbo. 60AR with a 57 trim cold side. Yes to some that is a tad bit small but I am looking for response time not a daily super lag machine. It will run on an internal waste gate to save on cost and space on the engine bay. It will be controlled by a turbo XS manual boost controller at 5 PSI ONLY. More if you want but at 5psi it should be more efficient and yield some more power over the robbing supercharger. It will also be fed by a walbro fuel pump. For now HKS BOV reciculated.
This is STILL in the works and I am still figuring out how to make it work on a stock fuel system. The way I have it in my drawing plan is the headers will be replace with one like you see on eBay, but the Y pipe will route back to the front where the turbo will sit in the front. A down pipe will run down from it to your stock exhaust line up. The intercooler will be a side by side setup but I will try to make it opposing setup if piping can be done. Runs up to the intake from there. The intake is also another deli ma I am running into since I will have to use that universal maf adapter.
Tuning will include a apexi neo or what ever is better for the setup on cost.
This kit is not design to make 1000whp or anything. Just something to replace the trd supercharger that has been discontinued. Your looking to make around 60-70whp extra out of it since it does run better without stress to the motor. Like always I will try to make it plug and play but it WILL required some custom drilling into your oilpan and wiring.
ANOTHER thing I am taking into consideration but this will DRIVE cost up BIG time is running a Map-pro or maybe even some other system that will eliminate that dam dildo restrictive maf sensor. Much more easier to run boost on it without lag.
As for the boost and power gains we can not know for sure. I have seen high compression 350Z and other cars pumping out a crappp load of power at 5-6psi over stock hp. Hell you might see 80-90whp with supporting mods on a solara at 5-6psi. You have to understand that that a supercharge robs ALLOT of power from your motor. If you search around the internet there are ALLOT of of proven test showing from 30-80hp lost because of the pulleys the motor has turn. Then it shows them swapping turbos into the same car at the same boost and the car pumps out way more power AT the same boost. theres are a bunch of stuff on it. Ill let you do your own searching.
And why use headers like ebay? Because of design I need to disrupt the flow to even it out more to feed the turbo. The location of the turbo is what kills so much ideas. Twin turbo is a no go and I want to save on cost as much as possible so this is where those ebay headers are useful. And yes, I HAVE THE EBAY TURBO DIMENSIONS.
Turbo- 700
BOV- 250
header/piping-900
IC- 300
IC piping- 200
walbro- 100
MBC- 100-150
upgraded fuel lines and filter (just like the jim fuel mod)-150
neo- 300
AGAIN this is me having interest for myself on my solara. But since I can always mass it out to help Solaraguy grow that I am seeing who wants it to. I can easily keep this to myself. I make no money. Just dreams.
Now for your inputs... Sorry no pictures.
And why does it cost so much? Your paying the same price I am paying. That way there are no number of buyer requirements. No discounts, no nada. What I pay is what you pay.
