walboro 190 fitment issues

Postby bigbirdSCed » Tue Apr 15, 2008 11:47 am

hey guys, i just finished installing the URD 190 upgrade i got from milt, full kit. i had few issues durring the install but the only one that bothered me and didnt really figure out was fitment. the assemply went together perfectly, no problems. i grinded down the end cap to make it fit over the URD provided fuel sock, fallowed the instructions to a T and double checked everything, and teh pump is fully seated in the housing with all 5(including factory) o-rings installed, checked like 5 times :P .

however, when reinstalling the whole unit the damn thing would not fit. it was 1/4" to tall, and the large o-ring around the top of the pump unit would not seat, the screws holding the plate wouldnt even seat. i ended up putting the factory fuel sock on and that pretty much fixed it though it was still a tight fit. drove it around, it works and doesnt leak.

i see ware makrs on the inside of the tank where the sock must have been at least touching before but this just doesnt seem right. plus im worried im not gettin the full benifits of the pump with the stock fuel sock. again, it is working and the install, aside from this, went off without a hitch. any one have this issue? are there any other issues i should look for incase i didnt do somthing?

*thanks to Vic and King for the help they gave me already*

again, I can't help with the size issue fitment part....

but I can reassure you that using the stock "sock" will not lessen the effects of the pump any, since it is based on pressure units and how much fuel it can move per hour

unless the stock setup is ridiculously restrictive (which it isn't- the weakness is in the pump), it will have no ill effects ;)

Hey man, i had the same issue when i did mine, the problem was like what u noticed where the gasket or ring on the top cap where the screws are did not meet the plate of the gas tank, with a bit of pressure and putting the screws in, it clicks into place. I did this, and then undid it to see if anything happened down the assembly, everything was fine. It might also correctly "plug" the fuel pump into the housing.

well its been nearly a week and everything ok, i do smell fuel vapors from time to time but not from the tank and there are no leaks that i can see. im assuming thats just the fuel runing a little richer, since it would do the same thing when i was droping codes a while back.

Thats not a good sign.

Check this, when u go to fill up next time, check to see if u get a "pssh" or a release of pressure when u take off the gas cap, if u do, all is good, meaning the tank is "sealed".

U shouldnt be smelling any vapors when all this crap is closed...

If not, wait till king and adam come down there soon and have them look at it. Ill try to come too ;)

i poped the seal and checked the tank today just to see and i see no leaking. i had cleaned the area around the seal to make sure. however the vapors are not commin from around the tank, but from the engine bay. not strong, only light and intermittent. ill have to check the fuel filter fittings to make sure thoes are tight and waht not too. im gonna double check tomarow after driving today and see if anything is leaking from the tank. id so, can i just get another seal and longer screws? that would raise the entire system up but throw off my fuel gauge a little.

though i did drive her quite spirited yesterday at a little meet we had and she never once droped any lean codes as she did before and none today either.

I don't think that you can get longer screws...but a new seal wouldn't be a bad idea...

personally, though the gen3 is slightly different...when I had to replace my fuel pump, the seal on my mounting plate was so old that it had shrunk...and it wouldn't seal properly at all even after bolting it down. So I got a new seal and no more vapors...but part of it too was that I snapped a screw as well...but not sure how big of a difference that would have made if I had a good seal at the same time though.
