Problem with VIP RS3000 Security System

 Ok. Does opening the trunk activate the alarm system because mine doesn't? On page 4 of the Owner's Guide it says opening the trunk triggers the alarm. On page 7 it says the RS3000 will trigger when "opening the vehicle's trunk", etc...

What happens to your alarm when the trunk is opened and the VIP is on?

What should I do?

Obviously the alarm will go off when the trunk is opened and the alarm is activated.

What should you do? Simple...disarm the system...then open the trunk. Ever think of that?

on my car opening the trunk with the remote will not set off the alarm. it tempoparily disables it (as indicated by the steady red light on the dash) then rearms when the trunk has been closed.

Yeah...that doesn't apply to RS3000 VIP equipped cars.

Misunderstood

Postby solara_man2000 » Tue Aug 26, 2003 12:23 am

Let me rephrase what I said earlier:

I said my alarm does NOT go off if the trunk is opened when the alarm is already activated. In other words.

Step 1: Activate alarm
Step 2: Open trunk with key--> alarm is not triggered (i.e. lights do not flash and horn does not sound).

That's the problem. :o According to the User's Guide, it states that Step 2 above should trigger the alarm as would opening the door with your key.

So my guess is that the alarm was NOT properly installed on my Solara.

I hope this is more clear and I hope someone can help or I guess I'll just take it back to the dealer and find out the hard way.

Thanks.

no (recent) toyota alarm will be set off by opening the door with your key.

What the dealer says

Postby solara_man2000 » Tue Aug 26, 2003 11:33 pm

I called the dealer today to dig deeper into this. The dealer said that the alarm should work. It should be directly connected to the trunk light. So if the trunk light is activated upon opening the trunk, then the alarm is triggered.

So he told me to bring it in to get fixed, BUT the problem is the warranty has expired as of April  and he said even though it was an installation fault (their fault), they still have to charge.

I wish the previous owner figured this out when he has the alarm installed.
