Big Brake Driving Impressions
Well I finally got my car put back together and had a chance to try the brake kit, its definitely an improvement! The first thing I noticed after the pads (Porterfield AP 707 R4-S) where properly bedded and the rotors "seasoned" was a decrease in overall pedal effort. The next thing was how well the brakes feel at high speeds, before at 80mph I could never get close to feeling the anti-lock system trying to engage but now there is enough brake to actually have to use the anti-lock from keeping the tires from locking up. The big rotors also seem to be a much better heat sink becouse you can use them harder and more often before the pads begin to fade. When I was bedding my last set of pads on the stock rotors it only took about 6 fast stops from 60mph before they faded, this time with the new rotors it took about 8 stops. Finally, in the few days I have had them on I have already recieved two unsolicited compliments on the big rotors confirming my opinion that the stockers look weak when you are rolling on 17's or larger.
Overall I am very pleased with the results of this kit, meeting or exceeding all my design and engineering goals of performance, aesthetics and price.
