We have a rear axle? 3.93 is a rear differential setting for real American cars like corvettes. Might want to double check your info.

GTI challenger saturday...

Postby mcgervey » Mon Jun 28, 2004 6:36 am

Was getting on from an exit and a GTI decided to try and pin me in the right lane by speeding up... Took off and took him... after it opened up, he chased. Started disappearing at around 110. Topped out at 125 and backed off because my girlfriend was getting uncomfortable (She drives fast too, but spazzes out after 100)...

Don't think the GTI was a VR6, just a bright yellow one with some crew cut kid behind the wheel. Probably not much of a challenger. Don't know if I got him with the car or with his wuss driving. He was all big and bad chasing until 110 or so though.

Don't know a whole lot about the GTI's. A buddy here has the VR6, haven't talked to him yet about the encounter though.

Not true . . . it all depends on the skills the driver has and how you are racing. I had a 99 Prelude SH 5speed two years ago and lost to a 2000 BMW 330 (my friends). I raced him again with my 99 SE Solara 5speed and smoked his ass this time.
Now back onto the subject . . . I was able to get a 6.8, 6.9 & 7 flat in the 0-60 sec. My best quarter mile is 15.6 sec, with an average of 15.7. The Solara does have some power . . . but it is quite limited.

stock vs stock comparison from edmunds.com

Type R - Acceleration (0-60 mph): 6.7 sec
Solara V6 Acceleration (0-60 mph): 7 sec

5 less hp and 600 less lbs for the teg

and yeah, they aren't really that fast, but they're still amazing cars.
